In the clear morning by the old temple
where the rising sun paints the treetops,
there is my path, through a hollow
of boughs and flowers to a Buddhist retreat.
The birds are alive with mountain-light
and the mind finds peace in a pool.
All the ten thousand sounds are stilled
by the breathing of a temple bell.
