First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd U.S. president), was born on this day in 1884. Shortly after moving into the White House, she began holding weekly, all-female press conferences. This practice helped women reporters to become an integral part of the White House Press Corps.
